چکیده

We attempted a simple pretreating method consisting of solid-phase extraction using bonded silica gel with benzenesulfonic acid (SCX) as the solid-phase sorbent to determine trace elements in pure molybdenum samples by means of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Molybdenum was anionized by adding hydrogen peroxide solution to a sample decomposed with acid, and separated from cation trace impurities that had been kept in the chemically bonded silica gel of the ion-exchange type. The target elements retained in the solid phase were eluted with a small amount of dilute nitric acid. In this method, some trace elements, such as Be, Al, Mg, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Cd, In, Tl, Pb and Bi were determined by ICP-MS using the eluate. The detection limitations (3 ), as follows: Be 0.028, Al 2.64, Mg 1.9, Cr 0.20, Mn 0.13, Fe 3.85, Co 0.019, Ni 0.48, Cu 0.084, Zn 0.25, Ga 0.092, Cd 0.014, In 0.059, Tl: 0.027, Pb 0.044 and Bi 0.012 ng/g (ppb).

State-of-the-art in inorganic mass spectrometry for analysis of high-purity materials

Inorganic mass spectrometric methods are widely used for the multielemental determination of elements at the trace and ultratrace level in high-purity materials (e.g., conducting, semiconducting and nonconducting solid samples, high-purity water, organic solutions and solvents). Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (L...

Determination of Trace Elements in High Purity Tungsten by Solid-Phase Extraction/ICP-MS

To establish a rapid trace-quantification scheme for elements contained in highly purified tungsten, we studied the most suitable conditions for separating the elements using solid-phase-extraction as a pretreatment for inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). We used chemically bonded silica gels belonging to the functional group of benzylsulfonic acid as extracting agent. Tungst...

Multielement determination and speciation of major-to-trace elements in black tea leaves by ICP-AES and ICP-MS with the aid of size exclusion chromatography.

A multielement determination of major-to-trace elements in black tea leaves and their tea infusions was carried out by ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry) and ICP-MS (inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry). Tea infusions were prepared as usual tea beverage by brewing black tea leaves in boiling water for 5 min. About 40 elements in tea leaves and tea infusio...

Inorganic trace analysis by mass spectrometry

Mass spectrometric methods for the trace analysis of inorganic materials with their ability to provide a very sensitive multielemental analysis have been established for the determination of trace and ultratrace elements in high-purity materials (metals, semiconductors and insulators), in different technical samples (e.g. alloys, pure chemicals, ceramics, thin films, ionimplanted semiconductors...

Direct Measurement of Metallic Impurities in 20% Ammonium Hydroxide by 7700s/7900 ICP-MS

Ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) is a chemical used in the manufacture of semiconductor devices, and must therefore be analyzed for trace metal impurities. The direct analysis of undiluted (20%) NH4OH using ICP-MS is challenging because its high vapor pressure causes plasma instability. However, dilution of the samples would degrade detection limits, so the ability to directly analyze 20% NH4OH is im...
